About Select

Topham Park Minor Softball Select Program

  • Topham Park's Select program is a member of the Ontario Select Softball Tournament Association (“OSSTA”).
  • Topham Park Select teams play under the team name “Topham Park Panthers”.
  • Select teams play in weekend tournaments organized through the OSSTA across the Province.
  • The program provides players with additional practice time, training and skills development beyond the scope of the House League.
  • The Select program is aimed at fielding competitive teams for entry into tournaments and as such equal playing time and/or playing certain positions are not guaranteed.
  • Currently all Select teams are in Girls divisions but if there is interest in Boys Select at any age, parents are encouraged to contact the VP Select.

Practices/Training
  • Teams selected in the Fall will begin winter and spring training after the team has been selected. During the House League season, practices will not interfere with House League games and practices.
  • When the House League season is completed, teams will practice at least 1-2 times per week at the discretion of their coaches.

Games/eligibility
  • Players must play in at least two (2) tournaments to qualify for the Provincial Championship held in August. The expectation is that players who make the team will prioritize Select during their summer and the availability to participate in tournaments and practices may be a factor in determining their selection a team.

Costs
  • The Select fee will be comprised of the cost of the following items*:
(a)     Tournament fees-based on the number of tournaments each team enters and the number of players on the team (U11 and U13 teams will pay $450 per tournament and $500 for Provincials and U15-U21 teams will pay $500 per tournament and $550 for Provincials)
(b)     Training and instruction;
(c)     Unforms;
(d)     Team equipment;
(e)     Administrative costs for the banquet, trophies and related costs.

Each coach will submit their budget to the VP Select prior to the start of the season for approval.  Fees normally range from $350.00-$500.00 per player which does not include winter/spring training.**
*If there are any players that require financial assistance, please contact the VP Select directly and all conversations will be held in strict confidence.
