Volunteer Recognition Awards
The John Shelton Award - Adult Volunteer
The John Shelton Award is a lifetime achievement award for one of the most dedicated volunteers at Topham Park. John’s volunteerism began in 1973 as an umpire in the league. He then rose to the rank of Umpire in Chief, a position he held till 2003. John spent much of his retirement years purchasing bargains for the snack bar as a way to create revenue for the league. His love for the game and Topham Park was evident in everything he did for the league and has been passed down through generations. The number #44 can always be found on our umpire uniforms and we are proud to have our John Shelton Diamond. John’s passing left a void in the Topham Park Community but his commitment to volunteering and community continues to be the hallmark of the league.
The John Shelton Award is presented to an adult volunteer who exemplifies John’s commitment to volunteerism and community at Topham Park.

The Shane Espada-Talebian Memorial Ambassador Award - Bantam Age Player
This award is exclusive to a Bantam age player (15-17 years old) and honours the legacy of Shane who left us at the age of 16. Shane loved the park and quickly became part of the Topham family. He spent may hours at the park as player, coach, umpire and grounds crew member. His family were constants at Topham, often being teased about setting up a tent for the season. TPMSL has honoured Shane’s life with a tree and bench in our park.
The Bantam player who receives this award shares Shane’s dedication, compassion, sportsmanship, humility and love of the game and our league.
